چکیده

Two key factors affecting the performance of Error Correcting Output Codes (ECOC) in multiclass classification problems are the independence of binary classifiers and the problem-dependent coding design. In this paper, we propose an evolutionary algorithm-based approach to the design of an application-dependent codematrix in the ECOC framework. The central idea of this work is to design a three-dimensional codematrix, where the third dimension is the feature space of the problem domain. In order to do that, we consider the feature space in the design process of the codematrix with the aim of improving the independence and accuracy of binary classifiers. The proposed method takes advantage of some basic concepts of ensemble classification, such as diversity of classifiers, and also benefits from the evolutionary approach for optimizing the three-dimensional codematrix, taking into account the problem domain. We provide a set of experimental results using a set of benchmark datasets from the UCI Machine Learning Repository, as well as two real multiclass Computer Vision problems. Both sets of experiments are conducted using two different base learners: Neural Networks and Decision Trees. The results show that the proposed method increases the classification accuracy in comparison with the state-of-the-art ECOC coding techniques. & 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Investigation of coding structure in DNA - Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2003. Proceedings. (ICASSP '03). 2003 IEEE International

We have all heard the term "cracking the genomic code", but is DNA a code in the information theoretic sense? The coined term "genetic code" maps nucleotide triplets (codons) to amino acids. However, this is in computer coding sense because a codon instruction is performed to output an amino acid sequence. In this paper, we examine methods to detect redundant coding structure in DNA. First, a f...

Epileptic seizure detection based on The Limited Penetrable visibility graph algorithm and graph properties

Introduction: Epileptic seizure detection is a key step for both researchers and epilepsy specialists for epilepsy assessment due to the non-stationariness and chaos in the electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. Current research is directed toward the development of an efficient method for epilepsy or seizure detection based the limited penetrable visibility graph (LPVG) algorith...

Improvement of Performance in Multiclass Problems by Using Biclassification Based on Error-Correcting Output Code

Error-correcting output coding (ECOC) is a widely used multicategory classification algorithm that decomposes multiclass problems into a set of binary classification problems. In this paper, we propose a new method based on a bi-classification strategy, consisting of one-vs-one and ECOC classification. Also we introduce methods to improve a standard ECOC. The proposed method is compared to othe...

Combining subspace codes with classical linear error-correcting codes

The below paper was written in May 2014. The authors have come to know that there is a significant overlap with previous results by Vitaly Skachek, Olgica Milenkovic, and Angelia Nedic published in July 2011 as arXiv:1107.4581. Their paper entitled “Hybrid Noncoherent Network Coding” appeared in IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, June 2013. We discuss how subspace codes can be used to sim...
